José Maria Ribeiro
The Brazilian artist, José Maria Ribeiro, born in Bambuí in Minas Gerais State started his professional artistic career in 1967.
Even though he is an architect, graduated at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, he also taught painting and drawing at Escola de Belas Artes da UFMG, as well as in the Winter Art Festivals, Festivais de Inverno in Ouro Preto.
Since then he is an artist totally commited to his work. He lives and works in Lagoa Santa, Minas Gerais, and takes part in many solo and group exibitions in Brazil and abroad.
His artistic production consists of paintings of various themes, as well as custom portraits. José Maria Ribeiro is in fact known as one of the greatest portraitist in Brazil. His portraits are in great demand by both institutions and private parties.
His paintings are inspired by the enviroment where he lives, and yet they translate impressions of places he had already been. Lyrism, poetry and strengh emanate from his figures, landscapes, flowers, objects, portraits and abstract compositions.
His works are sometimes long built, thoroughly elaborated in his studio, or totally spontaneous, gestural, live paintings, outdoor, faithful to his primary emotions.
However, they always reveal a consistency between technical skill (refined over more than forty years of work) and the strong expressiveness of the artist.
José Maria Ribeiro is not carried away by fads; he builds his work true to his emotions and essential fundamentals of Art as ancient mirror of the deepest aspirations of the human soul.
